UNIQLO to give away thousands of free socks. The pair, perfected - Spring / Summer 2012

UNIQLO to give away thousands of free socks

Consider, for a moment, the sock. The humble, unassuming sock. What is its purpose? It covers your foot, keeps it dry and warm. It sits down there, at the bottommost point of your body, quietly doing its job. And if it does its job adequately, does it need to do anything beyond that? UNIQLO believes that it does.

UNIQLO will be handing out individual socks from 24th – 26th February along the mall in Westfield London. Customers are invited to go to the UNIQLO store in Westfield London to complete the pair for free and discover the world of UNIQLO.

UNIQLO manufactures hundreds of kinds of socks, 613 varieties, to be exact, among which is our favourite, the colour sock pictured here. This sock is the result of decades of continuous improvement to get the right tension, the right fit, the right composition. Why so much attention to something so basic - to make sure that the sock stays up, but is not too tight, to make sure that the ankle is in just the right place and to make sure that the colour (there are no less than fifty per season) holds even after hundreds of washes.

This sock is perfected. The sock, the not-humble-but-exalted sock, is emblematic of the UNIQLO motto: Made for all. We think of our items of clothing as components from which our customers can build the mix that best suits their lives. If we didn’t offer the kind of variety that we do, we couldn’t rightly say that we’re Made for all. But we do. We offer the basics and the not-so-basics in broad ranges of colours, finishes and materials because - and this might sound lofty: we respect people.

We don’t want to style you, to dictate trends to you, to change our whole deal with the (fashion) seasons. We simply want to give you the tools to express your own style. We think of clothing, at its core, as a system of ideas. UNIQLO respects the individuality and the intelligence of our customers, and their ability to interact with our ideas.

UNIQLO Undercover

UNIQLO’s imminent UU collection is to launch with an in store family focused event on Saturday 17th March.

The collection, designed by Undercover’s Jun Takahashi is to launch globally on Friday 16 March in selected UNIQLO stores. Mirroring the idyllic campaign, UNIQLO UK are inviting customers in store to take part in their own family portrait shoot with a professional photographer, and will be offering children balloons and origami lessons from 10am - 2pm at the flagship store, 311 Oxford street.

The collection nods toward a relaxed sports lux style, highlighted with fine cotton, soft jerseys, and neo leather fabrications for men and women, and, for the first time in 10 years, UNIQLO UK will also be offering kidswear to the British market for new born to age 11. Fun playful prints have been incorporated into the children’s and women’s designs, allowing for families to complement each others looks.

UU is all about a new kind of family-oriented clothing under a singular concept. Takahashi designed the children’s and babies’ lines with his wife, Rico. As the parents of two children, the couple lavished attention on the designs for children and babies to produce a playful combination of vibrant colours, unique prints and fine details, pushing this collection far beyond the conventional realm of children’s clothing. With the new UU collection, UNIQLO and Takahashi have developed an eclectic range of fine designs for the whole family. UU is Jun Takahashi’s message to the world, to encourage families the world over to maintain a positive outlook as they face the trials and tribulations of modern life.

The collection will be available in UNIQLO 311 Oxford street, 84 Regent street and online at www.UNIQLO.com. Kidswear prices range from £7.90 to £59.90. Men’s and women’s prices start at £19.90 to £79.90.

The five-year partnership, which takes effect from today, will see Djokovic promoting the UNIQLO brand and UNIQLO clothing worldwide. The partnership will also include collaboration on future product lines, as well as co-developing the ultimate UNIQLO functional wear.

UNIQLO unveils plans to warm up London with HEATTECH

UNIQLO UK is set to convert customers energy from October 25 – November 4 through an innovative floor surface that converts footsteps to energy at the entrance of the flagship store, and an online campaign, as part of a global HEATTECH giveaway.

Alongside the kinetic pads that will power digital screens through the shop floor, ‘heat spots’ will pop up around London in Covent Garden, Soho Square, Westfield London, Westfield Stratford, and Bluewater where passers by can interact with them through a custom made game, converting their social energy to redeem a piece of HEATTECH.

Customers can also convert their energy to redeem and experience HEATTECH through Facebook and a mobile game.

The converted energy from all the heat spots, both physically and online, as well as conversations around HEATTECH through Facebook and Twitter, will then be calculated, transferred and showcased on the in-store screens.

While customers will be converting their kinetic energy to power the in store screens, UNIQLO HEATTECH converts your body temperature into warmth for all day comfort. HEATTECH is the revolutionary thermal collection that brings together function, innovation, and fashion. HEATTECH is designed with a propietary rayon-rich blend of fibres developed by TORAY industries. Rayon fibresretain and lock in heat within the tiny air pockets created between them. Moisture retention is achieved in the fabric by blending it with milk protein that contains natural amino acids as well as kneading in whey –a component with high moisture retention effects. This combination allows the fibres to give a soft and second skin feeling to the wearer.

The HEATTECH collection spans product categories for both men and women, and includes; tees (long and short sleeved), leggings, long johns, tights, socks, scarves, gloves, hats, fleeces, and jeans (for women only), as well as the new addition of loungewear to keep you warm and comfortable at home.

HEATTECH isn’t just for the freezing cold day in January or the snowy Alps, its for your everyday activities, urban and countryside environments, for people all over the world. UNIQLO HEATTECH is truly Made for All.

Notes to editors
Customers can convert their energy and redeem a piece of HEATTECH by playing the custom made game at any heat spot, on the iPads present at each heat spot and in front of the flagship store, on facebook through the Uniqlo UK Facebook page, or on the mobile game, accessible through the QR code located on the heat spots and Uniqlo store windows.
