UNIQLO congratulates its Global Brand Ambassador tennis pro Novak Djokovic on his recognition on 15 April as the Laureus world sportsman of the year, at an awards ceremony held in Shanghai, China. Among the highlights for his selection was his performance at Wimbledon in 2014. It was the second time for him to receive the accolade, the first in 2012.
The Laureus world sportsman of the year is annually selected from the athletes and relevant organizations active across the range of sports worldwide. The candidates are selected by a panel of sports journalists from around the world, with the winners decided by the members of the Laureus Academy. The awards were established in 2000, across six categories.
Novak Djokovic said, “I am honored by this recognition. 2014 was a really great year for me, both professionally and privately. I won Wimbledon, regained my No.1 ranking, got married and had a baby. I couldn't ask for more and I am very grateful for all the support I get from my team, family and fans. I will continue working hard as I really love tennis and appreciate the opportunity to inspire many children around the world to play sports”.
Fast Retailing Chairman, President and CEO Tadashi Yanai said, “We are thrilled that our Global Brand Ambassador Novak Djokovic has been recognized as the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year. As is Novak, we are working to become number one in the world in our space. We aim to provide high quality, functional clothing for our Brand Ambassadors, to allow them to excel in competition”.
