Following the announcement of UNIQLO’s support of the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015, UNIQLO UK held two events to celebrate the Special Olympics GB team.

On Sunday, 12th July, nine runners from SSC took part in the BUPA Great British 10k including the UNIQLO EU COO, Mr. Kuwahara, to fundraise for Special Olympics GB. The team raised £2500 for Special Olympics GB through this activity.

Earlier in the week, on July 9th, UNIQLO UK welcomed Special Olympic GB athletes to a VIP send off to the Regent Street store. Ben Kelly, David Wolff, Matt Dodds and Mitchell Camp from the GB Special Olympics team were in attendance. With the support of four volunteers from stores and the UK store support centre, athletes were given a chance to design their own T-shirts with the UNIQLO UTme app, getting inspiration from designs around the store.

Afterwards, the athletes were given vouchers worth £70 and treated to a personal shopping experience, to prep them for their trip to LA for the World Games at the end of the month.

UNIQLO believes in the ideal of Special Olympics, to foster independence and social participation for persons with intellectual disabilities through sports, and has supported Special Olympics Nippon since 2002. Currently, UNIQLO supports local Special Olympics organizations in 12 countries and regions by providing uniforms, and sending volunteers to help run events.
